Sea Shell Cross Bible Craft
In A Nutshell
This easy Bible craft uses small sea shells to make a pretty cross.
Ages
Elementary, Tweens, Teens
Estimated Time
20 - 30 minutes plus optional drying time
What You Will Need
- 2 tongue depressors
- Fabri-Tac® glue
- Tiny sea shells
- 3 (20") pieces of raffia
- Utility scissors
- ModPodge® or Gloss Acrylic spray
Preparation
- Trim 1-1/2" off one tongue depressor with utility scissors. Round the corners to match other end.
- Glue pieces together to form a cross
Directions
- Place glue on part of the cross, then add shells. Continue until all surfaces are covered with shells.
- Take raffia and tie a knot at one end 2" from the end. Have one child hold the knotted end while another braids the raffia to the end. Tie second knot 11" from end. Cut fringe about 2". Have children switch positions and repeat for send raffia tie.
- Glue raffia to back on cross bars
- For a nice finishing touch, and to make the cross more durable, we recommend adding a coat of Modge Podge, but you have to allow an extra 15-30 minutes drying time. A quicker option is to add a coat of Acrylic spray.
Extras
You can use other glues, but this is our favorite because it dries fast like hot glue and has a very good bond, but it is a little hard to squeeze out of the tube. Leave it lying on its side when you are using it to make it easier to get out.
