A New Body Bible Lesson

Print

In A Nutshell

In this Bible lesson, children correlate the human growth cycle of birth to death with that of the tree and its leaves. Spring brings the promise of new life, just as Christian's experience a new life in heaven with a new spiritual body.

Ages

Elementary, Tweens, Teens

Scripture

1 Corinthians 36:41

What You Will Need

  • 1-2 Leaf buds
  • 1-2 fresh perfect leaves
  • Assortment of colored fall leaves
  • Damaged leaf with holes, spots, etc.
  • 1-2 dry, brittle, curled leaves
  • Chalkboard or butcher paper

Bible Lesson

What do we call this time of year? (Fall or Autumn) What do you see this time of year that reminds you that is is Fall? (Leaves changing color.) (Put a hand full of colored leaves on the table. Did these leaves start out looking this way? Then how? (As buds). (Write "Bud" on the board and pull out a bud to show the class). What are some words you would use to describe this bud? (Write suggestions down as the bud gets passed around the classroom).

When the bud blooms, you get a perfect little leaf, right? (Write "Green Leaf" on the board and pull out green leaf. Describe the leaf -- soft, even color, scent, smooth, etc.) Repeat the above actions for this and other cycles of the leaf such as mature leaf (damaged), colored leaf, dry and brittle leaf.

Repeat the same procedure for humans -- baby, toddler, child, teen young adult, parent, grandparent, elderly, death. Point out the similarities between the leaves and humans as you go through each step of the cycle.

So what happens to us when we die? (Get buried, have a funeral, go to heaven). We return to dust too, right? Then what? Let's see what the Bible has to say. Read 1 Corinthians 36:41

Just like new buds in the spring, God will give us a new, better body as we go live in Heaven. So every time we see the leaves change to briliant colors in the fall, we should remember God's promise to us. Just like the tree that gets new leaves in the spring, some day we too will get a new body when we join God in heaven.

Prayer

Dear Lord, Thank you for making us a place in Heaven so that we might live with you forever. Thank you for the promise of a wonderful new body. Thank you for sending your only Son, so that through him, we can get to Heaven. Amen

Extras

You may also wish to work the following quote into your lesson.

"Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in books alone, but in every leaf in springtime." --Martin Luther
