Tissue Paper Indian Corn Bible Craft

Ages

Elementary, Tweens

Estimated Time

45 minutes

What You Will Need

  • Indian Corn Template (See Downloads Below).
  • Tissue paper in fall colors (approx 11 - 2” strips per child cut long ways)
  • White glue
  • Brown paper lunch bag
  • Scissors
  • Raffia

Preparations

  • Cut out Indian Corn Template.
  • Cut 2" strips of tissue paper. This goes quicker by folding the tissue paper sheets in half then in half again repeating until you have fold approximately 4 inches wide. Cut 2" off the end for your strip. Repeatedly cut off 2" ends. Repeat with each color.
  • The two large ears of corn will take approximately 4 strips and the small one approximately 3 strips.
  • Cut the bottom off the paper sack. Slit the side of the bag so you can open it out flat. Fold in half, then half again, repeating until you have a roll approximately 4” wide. Taper each end and cut up the sides. This will give you 8 corn husks.

Directions

  • Children should pick colors for their first ear of corn. When choosing colors it is best to pick 2 different colors for each ear of corn.
  • Using a strip of tissue paper, tear off pieces approximately the size of a $0.50 piece. Wad the paper into a ball the size of a pea and set aside. Continue doing this for the whole strip of paper. Repeat with the second color.
  • Spread glue on the first ear of corn. Alternating colors, place the tissue balls on the corn until the template is covered.
  • Repeat the above steps with the colors for the next ear of corn. Then with the last one.
  • Take three corn husks and wrinkle them between your hands. Unroll them. Overlap the three at one end gluing to secure. Glue to the back of the Indian corn.
  • Tie raffia in a bow and glue to front.
