Raging River Camp

What You Will Need

  • Raging River Camp Map (See Downloads below).
  • Raging River Camp Sign Pattern (See Downloads below).
  • Card stock for sign
  • Wrapping paper tube
  • Can filled with pea gravel
  • Blue plastic tablecloths
  • Brown construction paper stepping stones
  • Chairs
  • Large blankets
  • Large campfire rocks (if you don’t have these, use sandwich bags stuffed with newspaper).
  • Sticks to make a pretend campfire
  • Flashlight, yellow tissue paper and a rubber band for fake fire
  • Small tent
  • Sleeping bags spread out to sit on
  • Christmas trees, silk trees and plants
  • Rushing water or waterfall sound effects

Instructions

  • Waterfall: Use one blue tablecloth to make a waterfall entrance for the door. The short side will be attached to the top of the door frame. Measure the height of the door. Lay the cloth on the floor and measure up to the door height and mark. Fan fold the cloth up to the height mark. Cut the folded clot in 1” to 1-1/2” strips. Unfold the strips and attached the uncut top above your doorway. You will have blue strips for a waterfall entrance.
  • River: Use the blue tablecloths on the floor for your river. Set some river rocks in the “water” in different places.
  • Stepping Stones: Cut brown construction paper and round the edges to make stepping stone for a river cross.
  • Bridge: Use sturdy chairs facing each other. Be sure the chairs touch to help make your bridge more secure. Drape the chairs with a solid colored blanket. Depending on the size of your river, you may need 4-8 chairs.
  • Camp: Set up a small tent and create a campfire with river stones and sticks. Use a flashlight with yellow or orange tissue paper. Spread out sleeping bags around the campfire to sit on. Add camp items such as backpacks, coolers, boots, etc.
  • Sign: Print and cut out Raging River Camp Sign. Glue to wrapping paper tube. Stick the end of the tube into a can filled with pea gravel.
  • Fillers: Use silk trees, plants and Christmas trees to create your woods. Put lights in the trees. You can leave the room lit only by the Christmas lights and campfire for a nighttime adventure.

Sleepy Mountain Camp

What You Will Need

  • Sleepy Mountain Camp Map (See Downloads below).
  • Sleepy Mountain Camp Sign Pattern (See Downloads below).
  • Lookout Tower Sign Pattern (See Downloads below).
  • Card stock for signs
  • Wrapping paper tube
  • Can filled with pea gravel
  • Large box
  • 1-2 long pieces of lumber
  • 10-12 rolled sleeping bags
  • Rope
  • Large blankets
  • Large paper bags
  • Newspaper
  • Tan spray paint
  • Large campfire rocks (if you don’t have these, use sandwich bags stuffed with newspaper).
  • Sticks to make a pretend campfire
  • Flashlight, yellow tissue paper and a rubber band for fake fire
  • Small tent
  • Sleeping bags spread out to sit on
  • Wind or woodlands sound effects

Instructions

  • Mountain: Use rolled up sleeping bags. Rope them together piling them up a couple of layers. Cover with a blanket.
  • Lookout: Using the large box, cut out windows on three sides and a door on the third. Make a few pair of binoculars (See Related Activities), and set them inside the lookout.
  • Cliff: place the boards against a wall. Children will stand with their back to the wall and inch their way down the board.
  • Sign: Print and cut out the Sleepy Mountain Camp Sign. Glue it to the wrapping paper tube. Stick the end of the tube into a can filled with pea gravel.
  • Camp: Set up a small tent and create a campfire with river stones and sticks. Use a flashlight with yellow or orange tissue paper. Spread out sleeping bags around the campfire to sit on. Add camp items such as backpacks, coolers, boots, etc.

Hidden Cave Camp

What You Will Need

  • Hidden Cave Camp Map (See Downloads below).
  • Hidden Cave Camp Sign Pattern (See Downloads below).
  • Card stock for sign
  • Wrapping paper tube
  • Can filled with pea gravel
  • Two tables
  • Large dark blankets
  • Large campfire rocks (if you don’t have these, use paper sandwich bags stuffed with newspaper).
  • Sticks to make a pretend campfire
  • Flashlight, yellow tissue paper and a rubber band for fake fire

  • Christmas trees, silk trees and plants
  • White Christmas lights
  • Woodland sound effects
  • Large rug rolled up (best brown or black)
  • Green construction paper
  • Brown plastic table cloth
  • Stuffed or plastic frogs or alligators
  • Fog machine

Instructions

  • Cave: Put both tables against each other and drape with some blankets. Leave openings to enter and exit. If your tables won’t work, you can always use two rows of chairs with their back to each other and a “tunnel” between.
  • Camp: Set up a small tent and create a campfire with river stones and sticks. Use a flashlight with yellow or orange tissue paper. Spread out sleeping bags around the campfire to sit on. Add camp items such as backpacks, coolers, boots, etc.

  • Fillers: Use silk trees, plants and Christmas trees to create your woods.
  • You may want to turn off the lights and use flashlights, lanterns and the Christmas lights to illuminate the room.
  • If your budget allows, rent a fog machine for a super-cool effect.
